Woospace Relaunch

I was noticing that woospace has been down about a month, and was really feeling the loss. So I am preparing to get things rebooted and back online! The last month has been a crazy struggle shifting into a graphic design position and purchasing my first home. Yes, I signed the papers this morning... So things will continue to be hectic for me, but for those who are still interested I am going to attempt to put some content up.

What's going on...

Dear Woospacers, as you may have noticed, things have slowed down here quite a bit. Currently I'm going through a career transition, and the learning curve is cutting into my Woospace time. But I am proud to announce that July 17 was my one year anniversary publishing this blog, and I don't want to give this up. So give me some time, and I promise, once the work transition is over, I will be back publishing on a regular basis. Until then, thank you for stopping by...

Reign O'er Me

Okay, so World Trade Center came out this weekend, which I didn't see, but might. It just looks so sentimental and straightforward, but I hear Nick Cage is good. Anyhow, I suppose we'll begin to see more and more "9-11 films" in the wake of WTC, and here is one I'm looking forward to called "Reign O'er Me" starring Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler or at least his Bob Dylan look-alike. Giant Baby

A giant baby and a baby of normal size lie together at Xiangfan First People's Hospital in Xiangfan, a city in central China's Hubei Province Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006. The giant baby, who weighs 12 pounds and is two feet tall, was born at the hospital on Thursday.

Tron Guy

Duyun

Had to post this picture... this is the town I lived in for two years! Duyun is a remote city in Guizhou province, well known for it's minority population. I walked down that street (known as Dog street) many times. This looks like a "traditional" wedding ceremony for the media, as the ethnic Buyi people are often used to promote tourism.

Olympics 08

This week marks the official two year countdown to China's big Olympic show. Yesterday they released the first pictograms for the various sports. It seems to me they are loosely based on ancient Chinese characters, not the modern day ones. China is freaking out in anticipation, yesterday they tried to predict the weather for the opening ceremony...

Beauty Robot

"Rong Cheng", a newly-created robot, sits on display at the Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing August 7, 2006. Rong Cheng, dubbed as the first Chinese "beauty" robot, is able to respond to some 1,000 Chinese words. She can dance, bow and greet people in the Sichuan dialect as she is destined for the Sichuan Science Museum to serve as a receptionist. The robot costs about 300,000 yuan (US$37,500) to make, according to Xinhua News. [Reuters]

Lord help us, what has pop culture done to us? Just when you thought Paris Hilton mania couldn't get any more out of control, Sanrio, the folks behind Hello Kitty, have taken it to another level. They have created a signature Hello Kitty figure with a Paris Hilton look. Thankfully, it's only available in Japan.

Sam Hiti has published a book called "Ghoulash" which of course features a host of ghouls and monsters. He has some nice loose ink drawings of all things creepy, check it out!

This Chinese baby, whose identity is being protected, was born with a few too many fingers and toes and thus I will recycle my joke and note that Professor X's school for the gifted and talented has yet to be reached.

Head Butt Trademark

BEIJING - A Chinese man has registered an image of French captain Zinedine Zidane's infamous head-butt in last month's World Cup final as his trademark, a local newspaper reported Thursday. Zhao Xiaokai, a general manager of a public relations firm specializing in sports, is now considering selling the rights to the black-and-white silhouette, which depicts the soccer star ramming his head into the chest of Italy defender Marco Materazzi during the July 9 final, the Beijing Daily said. Zhao paid 2,000 yuan (US$250; euro196) to register the trademark for clothing, shoes, hats and beer products, and has invited bids of 1 million yuan (US$125,000; euro98,000) for the rights, the report said. "Two days after the World Cup ended, I started thinking about trying to trademark the image," Zhao was quoted as saying. "This image is highly recognizable. But by using silhouettes, I can avoid infringing on the soccer star's image rights."

I'm back!

And I've got pictures! They are from our Tijuana/Rosarito excursion with T-Rex. And for the record, I know it's Mexico n'all but those aren't REAL zebras. The last pic is of Lady A in Palm Springs where we laid around for four days hiding from the sun, and counting all the old people. We did magage to go out for the Tuesday night "All You Can Eat Lobster Buffet" at the Spa Casino, can you say "get your tail in here!" Mmm... delicious.

Knocked Out

Last night was the wrap party for Knocked Up, free booze and sushi "Hollywood" style, just the way I like it. The image is the show logo we have used during filming, not sure if it will be the same art on the movie poster when the film opens in August of 07. It has been a good show and I've been able to work with some talented people. Looking forward to see how this movie is received, and whether Seth Rogen will become a full blown star. There are big laughs in this film, but the humor isn't for everyone. I'm also excited to see how he and his writing partner, Evan Goldberg, fare with "Superbad", which I'm told is essentially Micheal Cera (Arrested Development) and Jonah Hill (Knocked Up) playing Seth and Evan in High School. And Seth also has writing credits on "Drillbit Taylor" (starring Owen Wilson) with "story by" John Hughes, could be a winner. I hope these guys can revive the 80's style teen comedy (we don't need a Revenge of the Nerds remake!) Anyhow, today is my last day on the show, so next week I'm taking a little R&R... woosapce will most likely be down till next Thursday. But don't worry, I'll be back.

6 yr old does 10,000 pushups!

Lu Di, 6, flexes his muscles as other young kungfu students watch at a kungfu school in Central China's Henan Province July 26, 2006. According to school president Shi Yongdi, Lu did 10,000 pushups in three hours and twenty minutes four days ago. Since he shows so much promise, Shi says the school will waive his tuition for ten years.

Liberace/Cage

Now that bio-pics are red hot, the life and times of Liberace are coming to the big screen. And Nick Cage is rumored to be playing the part of the famous flamboyant pianist. I actually think this is good casting, cage has the right features, and definitely knows how to play over the top. If done right, this could be a winner.

Hurley and Jordache

I don't know why I'm posting this, but Elizabeth Hurely is now the new campaign model for Jordache jeans. Weren't those the jeans that girls wore when I was in grade school? "With success as an actress, model, business woman and mother, Liz represents everything the Jordache brand is about. We chose her because she is the true modern woman." The professional poser will be pimping out the '70s denim brand's Vintage line, as well as the new Legacy line, the latter of which will be available exclusively at Macy's nationwide.

Crusader Knights

Check out the site for Swordplay LA. There's a great range of characters from Zorro, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR, Gladiator, and even Star Wars. Some of the costumes and characters are cheezy, but overall, I'd be excited if I was seven years old and these guys came to my Birthday party. Here's the link.

Movie Title Pages

Check out this great gallery of screen captures of movie title pages, and tons of them. The thing here is that a designer worked and overworked a single frame, to create a 'lock-up' of the film title and it's a great education and an inspiration to see them all in one place. Link.

Chinese Dwarf Convention

"Six adults who are suffering from short stature pose for a group photo at a hospital in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu province July 23, 2006. 48 short adults from acorss China get together in the city, discussing concerns over their disease and considering helping those who are distressed by their stature. A dwarf club is also founded, which is the first of its kind in China." I find it hard to believe that all these people are "adults", I can see the two women but the guy on the far right really looks like a little kid. I mean what's up with the their clothes? If you don't want everyone to think your a kid, don't dress like one right? This seems like some strange Chinese publicity stunt, but to what end?

Art Kills!

Check out this giant inflatable sculpture that killed two women and injured many others when it suddenly lifted 30 ft. off the ground. The sculpture allowed viewers to enter the structure and thus the injuries occured as the sculpture crashed back down to earth. Read more here.

Back from CON!

Got back from Comic-Con last night. Had a blast! My legs hurt from traipsing up and down the convention floor. Jim-Smash proved to be an excellent guide. Also took a side trip to Mexico on Sunday with T-Rex and Angie, blew through Tijuana and landed in Rosarito, just in time for the tomato throwing festival. I'll throw up some pics of the bordertown beaches when I get a chance. And the image here is by choc_orange, his blog his here.

Children of Men

This movie is yet another speculative sci-fi flick, with the story taking place a few years in the future. For now, it looks just okay to me, with perhaps the best performance coming from a hippified Michael Cain. But I do like director, Alfonso Cuaron's movies, so this could be good. The film is based on the book of the same name by P.D. James, where "The world's youngest citizen has just died at 18, and humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction. Set in and around a dystopian London fractious with violence and warring nationalistic sects, Children of Men follows the unexpected discovery of a lone pregnant woman and the desperate journey to deliver her to safety and restore faith for a future beyond those presently on Earth." Watch the trailer here. Oh yeah, if you like this kind of story then you should really check out the graphic novel, Y: The Last Man
