Wrap Party

Saturday night I was invited to the ENTOURAGE wrap party. Free food and booze, good time, but nothing special... that is until we ran into a babe cradling, cigar smoking, Mr. Gary Busey. He even went out to the valet to put his gift bag away, because his girl didn't want to hold onto it. Little did they know that the bag had nothing but useless advertisements for a south beach hotel and a bottle of a "limited edition" water called BLING!

Light Graffiti

Using LED glowsticks, flashlights, even fireworks, combined with time-lapse photography, light graffiti artists create a unique tagging that wraps around objects dimensionally, allowing them to tag in a way they'd never be able to with spraypaint. link

Lil Dog Piglet

A dog feeds a piglet in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning province June 29, 2007. The piglet has been fed by the dog for some 40 days since its mother died soon after giving birth. The dog started feeding the piglet after encouragement by the farmer who placed the piglet with the dog in the doghouse, local media reported.
Qi Shi Huang's Secret Tomb

BEIJING - The tomb of China's first emperor, guarded for more than 2,000 years by 8,000 terracotta warriors and horses, has yielded up another archaeological secret.
After five years of research, archaeologists have confirmed that a 30-metre-high building is buried in the vast mausoleum of Emperor Qinshihuang near the former capital, Xian, in the northwestern province of Shaanxi, Xinhua news agency said on Sunday. Duan Qingbo, a researcher with Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology, said the building might have been constructed for the soul of the emperor to depart. Archaeologists have been using remote sensing technology since 2002 to study the internal structure of the unexcavated mausoleum. They concluded that the building, buried above the main tomb, had four surrounding stair-like walls with nine steps each, Xinhua said. Qinshihuang unified China in 221 BC. The life-size terracotta army, buried in pits near the mausoleum to guard the emperor in the afterlife, was accidentally unearthed in 1974 by farmers who were digging a well.

Richard Lund

Part of Hollywood magic is creating sets on stages, but you still need the view. In the old days it was done by scenic painters. Today they are large format "backings" called Translites. Take a look at Richard Lund's site, Richard has shot backings for over 200 films. Cool Stuff, here. *the featured pic is the Tonite Show's backing that Richard shot.

Frank and Cindy

When Cindy married a rock star, Frank, in 1983 she imagined a life of glamour and GRAMMYS. But the song that propelled Frank to fame, Whirly Girl, would be the only chart-topper from his group, OXO. Years later, out of shape and nearly bankrupt after spending all his money on "gas, food, dry cleaning... and drugs", Frank is not the vision Cindy married. Desperate to resuscitate her dream, Cindy furnishes a new studio for Frank in hopes he'll record another hit. Instead, he'd rather drink. And now, twenty-three years after appearing on American Bandstand, Frank lives sequestered to the basement where he uses coffee cans for a toilet. In 2005, Cindy's filmmaker son G.J. begins documenting the situation. After a year of filming, what began as an attempt to mock his stepfather instead becomes a candid portrait on the pursuit of happiness.

Party Heroes

I saw this funny looking "Spidey" car yesterday on the commute home. Turns out the owner has this Super Heroes for parties business. The site is pretty cheesy, but there are some cool pics of StarWars parties and Wolverine. And to be honest, I think their prices are reasonable, I'm sure most kids would love this. Check out their pics page here.

Drill Bit Taylor

They are editing this movie one office down from my new gig... Kind of curious about this one, will the Apatow Midas touch work for everything? Rogen and John Hughes... could be interesting.
"When two high-school freshmen hire a man whom they believe to be low-rent soldier of fortune to protect them from the most sadistic bully in school, they soon find out just how deceptive appearances can be in this comedy based on a story by John Hughes, and featuring a script by Seth Rogen and Kristofor Brown. Owen Wilson stars as the presumed mercenary in a film produced by Judd Apatow." Opens March/April 2008
Hollywood Hell House!

Art Sells

At the June 2, MOCA FRESH silent art auction fundraiser, actor Tobey Maguire was intent on getting a drawing entitled Tincture by LowBrow art superstar Mark Ryden (donated to the event by West L.A.’s Michael Kohn Gallery). The 5′5″ actor lurked around the small framed artwork in the company of MK Gallery Director Samantha Glaser, who towered over him as a protective brunette bombshell skyscraper that Spiderman himself could only hope to climb. For the final 45-minutes of the event Maguire suffered the L.A. art world’s fools with a polite aura of resignation that if this is what it took to get his Ryden, this is what would have to happen, topping his early $37,500 bid near the final bell with a penstroke committing $42,500 to MOCA.

Stand and Deliver

I know Johnny Depp always credits his Pirates performance to Keith Richards, but just watch this old Adam Ant video and watch his eyes at the end... ah ha! Me thinks I see Depp's inspiration. Plus it really is still a good song, link
No Senior Jones
Tim Cappello

Who remembers the buff sax player in Tina Turner's band? His name is Tim Cappello and he had some classic screen time in the film Lost Boys playing his hit song,
I Still Believe which is full of 80's cheesiness... he's wearing chains around his neck! Or check out his sax solo in the One Of The Living video from the Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome soundtrack! You've never seen so much Baby Oil in your life... Plus check out his silver drum stick "holster" featured in the picture, one must always have a quick draw for Cowbell playing... Yes!

Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium

Don't know if this is on anyone's radar... It is the brainchild of wunderkind screenwriter, Zach Helm. This is only his second feature, and he's already directing.
His fisrt was 2006's "Stranger than fiction". I know that Mr. Magoriums' was his original spec script/callling card in the industry. He sold it to Fox, and it went into development hell, and then he was able to buy it back, and direct it himself... Talk about clout after only one film... Anyhow, I guess he got along with Dustin who was in his first film, because he's back and starring as the title character. It seems like the new film aspires to be a "Willy Wonka" type of film, which is in my opinion, a tough road to go... Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium "is about Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman), the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, the 243 year-old man, who owns the store (Dustin Hoffman), bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable Emporium".
Scott Adsit

In 1997 William's put out a great pinball machine, which is still considered one of the best, called Medieval Madness. I have recently discovered a totally geeky connection to the game and two cast members of NBC's 30 Rock. It seems one of my favorite character actors, Scott Adsit voiced some of the characters in the game, as well as the show's writer and star, Tina Fey. Being that these two comedians are from Chicago, and (I assume) that's where Williams was headquartered. Anyhow, this was really suppose to be a Scott Adsit post, look for him in commercials (running with the wolves) and films... taxi driver in the Italian Job.
