Tim Cappello
Who remembers the buff sax player in Tina Turner's band? His name is Tim Cappello and he had some classic screen time in the film Lost Boys playing his hit song,
I Still Believe which is full of 80's cheesiness... he's wearing chains around his neck! Or check out his sax solo in the One Of The Living video from the Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome soundtrack! You've never seen so much Baby Oil in your life... Plus check out his silver drum stick "holster" featured in the picture, one must always have a quick draw for Cowbell playing... Yes!

Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium
Don't know if this is on anyone's radar... It is the brainchild of wunderkind screenwriter, Zach Helm. This is only his second feature, and he's already directing.
His fisrt was 2006's "Stranger than fiction". I know that Mr. Magoriums' was his original spec script/callling card in the industry. He sold it to Fox, and it went into development hell, and then he was able to buy it back, and direct it himself... Talk about clout after only one film... Anyhow, I guess he got along with Dustin who was in his first film, because he's back and starring as the title character. It seems like the new film aspires to be a "Willy Wonka" type of film, which is in my opinion, a tough road to go... Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium "is about Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman), the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, the 243 year-old man, who owns the store (Dustin Hoffman), bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable Emporium".
Scott Adsit
In 1997 William's put out a great pinball machine, which is still considered one of the best, called Medieval Madness. I have recently discovered a totally geeky connection to the game and two cast members of NBC's 30 Rock. It seems one of my favorite character actors, Scott Adsit voiced some of the characters in the game, as well as the show's writer and star, Tina Fey. Being that these two comedians are from Chicago, and (I assume) that's where Williams was headquartered. Anyhow, this was really suppose to be a Scott Adsit post, look for him in commercials (running with the wolves) and films... taxi driver in the Italian Job.

Silverman's Paris Slam
At the MTV awards last night, there was a very awkward moment when Silverman used her funny/offensive style of comedy when she made a joke about Paris going to prison... and uh, Paris was sitting in the front row, with eyes full of wounded pride... and Jack Nicholson laughs his ass off! clip
Day Watch
Maybe I'm jaded, because although Day Watch (Night Watch 2) has incredible effects and an interesting supernatural storyline... I found myself getting a tad bit bored with this Russian import. However, the one thing I must say, Hollywood take note. Even without the power of American F/X houses, I found the film's effects exciting and often different than anything I had ever seen before. Satellite Party
I have followed Perry Farrell's career since 1989's Nothing's Shocking, but had fallen out of interest as of late, but it seems that he has done what I thought he couldn't do, re-invent his music, this time not as "hard rock" or "electronica" but as a viable band with a nice variety of songs. There's even a Jim Morrison track at the end of the record (?), go to their website for a listen, here or check out this youtube mini sampler here. Not sure about some of the stuff Perry says (what's new) but the songs do sound good for a change. And yes, that's Perry's wife in the band... Record comes out May 29th.

The Rum Diary
Johnny Depp will apear in another Hunter S. Thopson novel out in 08... Begun in 1959 by a then-twenty-two-year-old Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary details the life and events of Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction. Thompson delivers a potent story that pushes the sometimes brutal truth of human relations into your face in such a way that it would be absurd to not laugh.
Knocked Up
Finally, I got a chance to see this film and overall I thought the film worked. I was pleased to see the director, Judd Apatow, introduce the film telling the crew thanks for working on it, and that it couldn't have been as bad as doing a Micheal Mann movie... The big trick with this movie was to see if Seth Rogen and Kathrine Heigl would have any kind of on-screen chemistry, and for the most part they do. What makes this film work isn't so much the premise, a loser guy getting a one night stand pregnant; it's the fact that Apatow laces the film with everyday experiences that the audience can relate to. Some of the best jokes are about marriage and parenthood, coming from Paul Rudd and Apatow's real world wife, Leslie Mann. I thought Mann's performance as an overly concerned parent and control freak were dead on. Her scene with the bouncer was classic. This is definitely an adult comedy, in the sense that it's not about two male figure skaters becoming teammates. There is a fairly honest approach to Apatow's comedy, and he let's his actors say what people would really say. I did find some of the "slacker/stoner/party guys" humor a bit forced... One too many bong hits, we get it, he's a stoner, I mean you named the character Ben Stone for gosh sakes. But the asian stoner girlfriend did have some stand out moments, and her boyfriend's running beard gag was kinda funny, and served the film well with a nod to the passage of time (9 months...) Anyway, if you liked 40 year-old virgin at all, then you'll most likey enjoy it, if not like this one better. Trailer P.S. Seth Rogen's "impressions" in the film are hilarious.
