Say it ain't so... Looks like the guys in Kiss are planning on rocking the pages of comic books well after their time on earth is up. And I don't think that's a good thing... "Kiss 4K," the story of the transformation of Simmons, Stanley and other Kiss band members from rock stars to world-protecting warrior spirits, will debut as the world's largest comicbook, priced at $50. It will be the first comicbook-based property to simultaneously launch all of its merchandise in the U.S., France, Germany, Italy and Spain."

Momofuku Ando, the Japanese inventor of instant noodles, has died, according to Nissin Food Products Co., the company he founded. He was 96. Ando died of a heart attack on Friday, Nissin said in a statement posted Saturday on its corporate Web site. He was born in Taiwan in 1910, when the island was under Japanese colonial rule. He moved to Japan in 1933, according to Japan's daily Mainichi newspaper. Faced with food shortages in post World War II Japan, Ando developed the idea that a quality, convenient noodle product would help feed the masses. He founded Nissin in 1948. full story

Lynchian

A highlight of my hiatus has been seeing David Lynch's Inland Empire. The film is like nothing I've experienced before in a theater. It clocks in at a whopping three hours, but does not feel long, just strange, but in an exciting Lynchian kind of way. This is definitely the most raw and perhaps the most pure David Lynch film ever. It examines the darkness of Hollywood dreams... and nightmares. Laura Dern turns an absolutely gut wrenching performance as the ill fated starlet fated to fall down Lynch's terrifying rabbit hole. It is his first film shot on digital video and at times I felt like I was watching an art video from the likes of Paul McCarthy or Tony Oursler. At the end of the film there is a great dream world sequence with dancing doo-wop girls and a burley lumberjack. The odd thing was, here at the end of this crazy movie, I recognized the lumberjack as my friend Keith. I emailed him later, and he told me about meeting David through a friend, and how his film company has a special thanks in the film and that David had designed this scene and had asked him to be in it. Quite a close to a very odd day.

Too much for Gus

Well-known filmmaker Gus Van Sant, who has made many of his sometimes controversial films in Portland and is a local resident, has been arrested on charges of driving while under the influence of intoxicants, according to Portland police.
The arrest took place in Portland around 4 a.m. Thursday, according to Portland police spokesman Sergeant Brian Schmautz.
Many of his films were made in Portland and he is currently making "Paranoid Park" in and around the city.

Cai Guo Qiang is an interesting International art star, who made built his career by utilizing gunpowder as his preferred medium. As you can see he has branched out and is making equally compelling work. I still like his work that involves big explosions or the traces of such explosions. David Lynch, Weatherman?

I shit you not, driving into work this morning, L.A.'s very own Indie radio station 103.1 has added a new weather reporter, David Lynch! He came on, presented the date and described the day as "clear blue skies and golden sunshine" he then told the current temperature in both fahrenheit and celsius and poof he was gone. The DJ said he would now be doing the weather in the morning from now on, who would've thunk it...?

The Road

The Road the lastest novel by Cormac McCarthy which tells the post apocalyptic tale of a father and son traveling down a road after a major nuclear? Disaster and encountering horrors of humanity has just been picked up by Hallmark films in time for Holiday Cheer, No, actually it will be brought to the big screen guts n all by director John Hillcoat who directed the Nick Cave penned screenplay the Proposition. I haven't read this book, but my wife has. She said it was good not great, and of course very depressing and a bit scary. It's a short book, she read it in one day! Is Gambit Lost?

Lost star Josh Holloway is being tipped to star in the next X-Men movie as fan favorite Gambit. Holloway, who plays Sawyer on the hit TV show, was set to star as Gambit in X-Men: The Last Stand but pulled out because of TV commitments. But it's reported the model/actor will star in the next installment, which will not feature many of the film's original stars, including Hugh Jackman, Sir Ian McKellen and Halle Berry. The film's producer Lauren Shuler Donner tells Moviehole, "Remember in Lost? There was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy… Sawyer. The reason we didn't use Gambit was because in a sense his persona is a bit like Wolverine in that he's got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others. That's why we went to Nightcrawler on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, (but) it wouldn't be The Gambit Movie." Gambit possesses the ability to charge objects with energy, causing them to explode.
