Is Gambit Lost?

Lost star Josh Holloway is being tipped to star in the next X-Men movie as fan favorite Gambit. Holloway, who plays Sawyer on the hit TV show, was set to star as Gambit in X-Men: The Last Stand but pulled out because of TV commitments. But it's reported the model/actor will star in the next installment, which will not feature many of the film's original stars, including Hugh Jackman, Sir Ian McKellen and Halle Berry. The film's producer Lauren Shuler Donner tells Moviehole, "Remember in Lost? There was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy… Sawyer. The reason we didn't use Gambit was because in a sense his persona is a bit like Wolverine in that he's got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others. That's why we went to Nightcrawler on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, (but) it wouldn't be The Gambit Movie." Gambit possesses the ability to charge objects with energy, causing them to explode.

Big Ticket Mao

On a related subject from the last post, guess how these three men are related... "A Hong Kong billionaire has paid a record US$17.3 million for a painting of China's Chairman Mao Zedong by pop artist Andy Warhol, it was revealed Thursday. Art collector Joseph Lau made the successful bid to clinch the painting, which depicts the former leader in typical Warhol-style, when it went under the hammer at Christie's New York Wednesday evening. The amount is a world record for a Warhol painting." read more

About A Son

I've been hearing a lot of stuff about Kurt Cobain lately, namely the morbid fact that he has surpassed Elvis as the most lucrative deceased star. And when there's a market out there that large, there are bound to be people out there trying to cash in. Most recently, a new "documentary" entitled Kurt Cobain: About a Son is coming out. It seems the film is mainly audio tapes between Kurt and rock journalist, Michael Azerrad. The director of the film has put together "atmospheric" imagery to compliment the interviews. But most accounts I've read of the film, say it's pretty weak. Click here for glimpse of the film and check it out for yourself.

Chinese KFC Propaganda Ad

Check out this Chinese KFC ad which states "KFC. Changing for China. Creating the New Fast Food."

The KFC China website says that the company is "calling for a new fast food movement, starting with each of us, and encouraging others in the fast food industry to join the movement, and together we will create a new fast food that meets the needs of the people of the future and accords with Chinese national conditions." According to KFC, compared with Traditional Foreign Fast Food, New Fast Food has more variety, a better blend of Western and Chinese flavors, more methods of preparation, more vegetables, more frequent introduction of new products, a more balanced approach to health, and more complete integration with Chinese safety standards.

If you haven't seen the Grindhouse trailer, check it out. I like the total low budget feel, and over the top violence and action. These guys are trying to give the video games a run for their money. This probably won't be a big hit, but will surely will become an instant cult classic. Grindhouse

Xiao Pang

I blogged about this kid before, but now "Xiao Pang/Little Fatty" has created his own website featuring news of his life. He reveals that he's currently 19, lives in Shanghai, and weighs 98 kg. One day someone snapped his photo during a school traffic safety activity and, "Little Fatty's soulful, eye-catching gaze quickly conquered the hearts of net friends, setting off a crazy flood of Photoshopping and making Little Fatty unwittingly into a star known around the world." Click here for a gallery of Xiao Pang images. Also, his site has different articles about the issue of being overweight in China and he has a bizarre story about a 220 lb 13 yr old boy abandoned by his father, who wandered nude into the city in search of food. For images from that story click here.

The Perfect Getaway

Vegas was the perfect getaway from moving and renovating stress, although we still need a solid weekend to unpack boxes. But it was well worth it. And we actually left Vegas at least $150 up, and for nickel slots that's a lot of credits won. But the biggest prize won was my own cell phone, which I had noticed wasn't with me, but figured I left it in the car. As we drove away from the casino I searched the car and no cell! So we went back to the parking spot, which was still open, and there she lay on the ground, right where I had dropped it four hours ago... Big shout out to the Vegas crew: MegDiamond, CardinalDan, A-girl, T-Rex, and J-smash! You all rock...
